CURRICULUM IMPORTANT INFORMATION
READING
We love reading in Year 4! All children have a school reading book. They need to bring their book into school every day, even if they haven’t read at home that evening, this is because we try to read with the children as much as possible. Reading at home is important in helping the children to make progress and apply the skills they have learnt in school so please try and read with your child as much as you can. Reading at home needs to be recorded on Seesaw so that we can keep track of how often your child is reading.
SPELLING
A spelling rule is taught weekly and the children will access another four lessons focusing on the rule and applying it within the week, they are also given 2 random year 3 and 4 spellings. They will be tested on all 12 words on a Friday. Spellings are given out in paper and on Seesaw and EdShed every Friday. Spellings are very important and we encourage children to do their best they can to learn them.
TIMES TABLE FACTS
Times tables are extremely important, especially in Year 4 due to the statutory Multiplication Tables Check that the children will complete later in the year. Children need to be able to recall multiplication and division facts for all times tables. Please practise these at home regularly. All children have access to Times Table Rockstar and this is a fantastic tool to helping them learn and recall their tables, there are also lots of websites such as timestables.co.uk, topmarks.co.uk (Hit the button on this website is excellent). We also have a Times Table Booster club on a Monday 3:15pm to 4:00pm to help children learn their times tables; this club is not compulsory but is very good at helping them learn their tables ready for the check.
YEAR 4 MULTIPLICATION TABLE CHECK
In Year 4 there is a statutory Multiplications Table Check (MTC) which is completed in June. In Year 4 we work throughout the year to prepare the children for this check, including helping them to learning all their times tables and being able to input them onto an iPad. The Times Table Booster on a Monday after school is also an excellent way to help your child be more prepared for the check. The check consists of 25 times tables questions, the children will have 6 seconds to answer each question, the test is done on a 1:1 basis with Mrs Cain on an iPad. There is only multiplication questions and no division
PE
In Year 4 PE is every Tuesday and Friday afternoons. This year we will continue to come into school in our sports clothes on PE days and lessons will be outside as much as possible. We provide a school PE kit through Motiv8 which consists of PE hoodies, skorts, shorts and jogging bottoms. Alternatively, your child should wear a navy sweatshirt or hoodie, plain white t-shirt, navy blue shorts and navy-blue tracksuit bottoms or joggers. The wearing of football kits and brightly coloured PE kits are NOT permitted in school. We also recommend your child has a water bottle in school to keep them hydrated throughout the day.
PLAYTIME AND LUNCHTIMES
As your child is in Key Stage 2, they are allowed to bring a healthy snack for playtime. This can be either a piece of fruit or vegetable. We also recommend your child brings a water bottle to school, so they can stay hydrated throughout the day, this should contain water and not juice. We a nut free school so we ask that you do not provide your child with any foods that contain nuts as we have severe allergies within school. Packed lunches should consist of a balanced healthy diet and contain no fizzy drinks or sweets.

Please remember that all key dates of latest school news can be found on our website. We will continue to update you via Arbor and the school’s weekly newsletter if any new dates are added or any dates are changed.
